Farewell and Godspeed, Bruce
You may have a hard time believing this, but I never met Bruce Carmichael, never even sent him an email. Bruce was eminently qualified to serve on the Park Hospital District board, certainly more qualified than me, and while everyone just assumed because MayBill was running as a five-legged carnival ride, any opponents would naturally have to "Human Centipede" (look it up) to run against his conglom, I barely corresponded with Bert (and again, never met him, still wouldn't be able to pick him out of a line-up) prior to the election, and never with Bruce.
So Bruce lost to a freak show, and Bert's response to MayBill reading pre-typed answers (and the League's freak-out about raising even the possibility of relatives by marriage possibly having ulterior motives) somehow sealed both of their fates.
In any event, I remember MayBill's good friends prior to the vote saying "Well, Bruce certainly appointed himself well at the forum, but with these horribly unjust accusations directed at MayBill, I have no choice but to not vote for him." They had it backwards. They were actually never going to vote for Bruce, despite the fact that he was more qualified than MayBill and everyone else voicing these sorry excuses, all of them put together, but now they had latched onto what they thought was a fail-safe excuse, a justification for them to sleep better at night, in not voting for him.
So Bruce never got to serve on the Park Hospital District board, and as another recall gears up, I can't help but laugh. MayBill got all he wanted, and now he is going to get it in spades. I don't really care whether it is "fair" or not to base a reason to dislike or recall someone on a false premise, because, honey, as Estes Park so clearly reminds us, time after freaking time, two can play that game.
So here is the (potentially) false premise, similar to "Bruce is completely qualified, but the controversy raised by one of his co-candidates disqualifies him":
Perhaps the MayBill Five doesn't deserve a recall, but they ran as a team, and they sure as hell are going to be recalled as one.
Do it for Bruce, do it for Mac, do it for Karen Nicholson, do it for anyone and everyone, patient, staff, physician alike, who has been bullied at the hospital by past and present CEOs and boards not fit to lick the toilets clean at Mile High after a Broncos game*, let alone set policy that influences the course of other people's livelihoods and lives.
*That goes into overtime. When the Raiders are the visiting team. And Chipotle gave away free samples of their new bean burrito at a giant tailgate prior to kickoff. Plus free coffee, which was so tasty people who don't even like coffee had two cups.
