Larimer County will move to high risk this week - State over 10% positivity

Image
This means 1 out of 10 people walking around Safeway right now are infected. Not that anything will change regarding the non-believers' behavior, but it is good to record these things for posterity, when the asteroid hits and the cloud of dust covers the sun.

Meeker ain't so meek

Update: Two individuals rescued, one body recovered, name released when next of kin notified

Final Jeopardy category: Colorado geography

Image
Let's see. What Colorado county shares borders with Boulder County and Jackson County? Dah-dah-dah-dah, dah-dah-dah. Dah-dah-dah-dah-DAH-da-da-da-da-da Dah-dah-dah-dah, dah-dah-dah. DAH-dah-da-da-da-Dah-Dah-Dah. (Boom-Boom) Now guess which county is going to move to high risk, and act if we are still at low risk. Dan Denning, start revving up you libertarian screed machine. Bent Dick Turd Ferguson, start your "so what if chidren die" posting engines.

A month ago, we cracked 2000 cases

Image
One month ago To repeat: One month ago

We will never get our $500,000 back

Image
In yet another stunning display of reckless and irresponsible non reporting, the pathetic Trail-Gazette said NOTHING about the biggest news to emerge from the town board study session last night, that CDOT hit up the town for another half million dollars before the Loop project can move to the stage of getting construction bids. As well, surprise, surprise, construction costs, especially asphalt, will add another $10 million to the previous cost estimates. But whatever, the Stanley concert series is chugging along, and we can't hurt our one worthless reporter's feelings, or we will just be left with Wendy R.'s hiking journal and sucking noises every month from the hospital.

So when do we get our $160K back?

Image
It amazes me when a guy gets $160,000 from one school district because he can't just be fired or quit or resign quietly (as everyone with a real job was subject to or expected to a decade ago) and then picks up the following month in another district, and doesn't have to return the "hush money" (as in "hush child, this briefcase of money will stanch your tears"). It's like free bonus money for, what, doing your job without bringing a firearm to school? Hey Estes Park, I'll gladly take the show on the road for $160,000 in district money. Talk about your hypocrites: Here's a guy who said it was all about the kids, and then took $160,000 out the door which should have gone to the kids.

Large Covid outbreak at the Stanley goes unreported

Image
But what else is new? The Trail is so far up the Stanley's tender ass they won't report this until the autopay ads run dry. Everyone up at the Overlook could be dead already, for all we know...

Only 1,606 people dead from Covid in the U.S.

Image
Since we've already forgotten about and dismissed the first 1 million, let's get serious about these next 1 million...

If a tree falls in the forest...

Image
Okay, but what about one million trees? https://www.latimes.com/science/newsletter/2022-05-17/coronavirus-today-1-million-us-covid-deaths-coronavirus-today

And then there were none

Image
Just so it is officially official, there are now no data collection centers reporting less than 1 million deaths in the U.S. from SARS-CoV-2 infection. And of course, they didn't just say 1 million was the maximum, let's stop counting because there won't be any more cases. Sadly, over the next few years, although there will still be websites devoted to tallying deaths, they won't be taken seriously, because we as a society have stopped counting, and many states will now just treat this the same as deaths from electrocution or drowning in bowls of pudding, a statistics to put on a PSA, like "one death every 12 seconds" which no one pays attention to or worries over, because what can you do about it? It's not like we could have prevented any of these deaths by a widely available, safe and free vaccine, or by washing our hands and wearing surgical masks.

Wait, you mean we don’t just stop there?

Image
I thought we were done at one million. You mean we are headed for two million?

Seriously, does anyone in Estes Park really care?

Image

Who really cares?

Image

Gosh, that happened quick

Image
Remember a few weeks ago when we were talking about 1950 cases in Estes Park? Hop on board our local COVID express. 3000 cases by the Fourth of July?

Eight to ten years after coming home

Image
Almost 800,000 men are still fighting the Vietnam War So who is going to write the definitive song about the 1 million U.S. citizens who are no longer fighting the COVID war?

Ask not for whom the bell tolls

Image
This number is just as inaccurate as every other number out there, but it is the one most media outlets quote. By the end of this week, the bell will be tolling for over 1 million of our fellow countrymen. If that doesn't give Dan "Damn the Covid Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead" Demming pause, nothing will. He is beyond help.

Is the Trail-Gazette purposefully suppressing information on local COVID deaths and cases?

Image
I could see how someone could get to the Trail-Gazette brass and tell them "Look, we're getting killed out here with bad news. We are going to go belly up if you don't throw us a lifeline and stop the drumbeat related to COVID cases in Estes Park (which have doubled in the last six months) and for sure keep your nose out of mounting COVID deaths (the most recent one, i.e., the obituary for this individual, which makes no mention of cause of death in late April 2022, is currently the most popular article on the competitor's website). I wonder who that "someone" was? Could it have been someone on the Trail-Gazette's editorial board? Perhaps someone who also serves on our local hospital board? Tom "Speedy" Covalez now says there is a backlog of state-reported deaths from last year, which will be added to the Larimer County count retrospectively. Estes Park, welcome to 20 deaths and 2000+ cases since the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak began. Not bad for a

Is the duck race over?

Image
Meaning, is it played out? Is it yesterday's news? Can we extinct it now that we've gamely suffered through it for the past 39 years? Can we Roe v. Wade it? If the Rotary had video monitors to chart the ducks' progress down the Fall River, or a melty section of the course where the unfortunate ducks got gooed if they came too close to the edges, it might be marginally interesting. But to sit around waiting for a loudspeaker update every 10 minutes while people mill about looking forlornly at the water seems antiquated. Could there be an instant announcement of the winner with scanned UPC codes instead of numbers? Is the whole thing just a silly form of juvenile legalized gambling anyway, with a 1/10,000 chance of winning? The remaining prizes beyond the five major prizes are kind of like "winning" a chance to put your head in a septic tank. They are generally gift certificates to places you never shop or eat, and activities you rarely engage in. Why not

Don't worry

For Estes Park, this just means our former Chamber CEO will get infected 1 million times.

Johns Hopkins and Larimer County’s latest counts

Things are ticking up again

Color me confused

Tom "Gone in 60 Seconds" Gonzales, Larimer County Covid czar, was spreading rose petals and strawberry ice cream about how everyone had vamoosed the hospitals in Larimer County and Weld County, everything casewise had "plateaued", and then five people get added to the overnight death count. Here is another Estes Park death you won't hear about from any other news source.

So the leak likely came from a Democratic justice or clerk

Image
How would the majority justices benefit from a leak this close to the primaries? Another reason why Colorado becomes the premier destination vacation - guaranteed legal end of life at both ends of the spectrum.

Our hospital is a broken-down playground for disease-ridden warlords

I went to Estes Park Health this morning at 9:00 a.m. The ballot box to cast ballots that was supposed to be at the entrance was nowhere in site. The hours posted for casting ballots, both as published in the Trail-Gazette and on a sign posted inside the main entrance, indicated the ballot box was available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the day of election (which is tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 May 2022). An employee behind the counter (so much for the fake concern about unauthorized people milling about in the lobby) said to wait, and it would be out soon. It was not. Someone wearing scrubs came down from the second floor holding a ballot, and apparently knew where the ballot box was, or how to prompt the appearance of the ballot box. While I was waiting, other potential voters also holding ballots came into the foyer. One gentleman indicated in disgust that he went to the emergency room the day before to attempt to cast his b

Gosh, this looks like our mayor is aiding and abetting criminal behavior

Image
Mayor - You may want to take this conversation and book proofing off line from the general public. I would note that some of the photographs appearing in the book for a fast food chain in Estes Park appeared in our Estes Park Archives program as published in the Estes Park News (link attached) https://www.estesparknews.com/estes_valley_spotlight/article_090cabc8-b8d0-11eb-99b4-934608a11a8c.html Perhaps Mr. Gilbert intends to give proper credit. Perhaps not. It sounds like the book is self-published rather than going through a publishing house. Generally, publishing houses work hard to give photo credit, in order to avoid potential lawsuits, while self-published books don't have any oversight as regards paying usage fees or giving proper photo credit. I can tell you the photographs of the Estes Root Beer establishment that appeared in the Estes Park Archives program are property of the Estes Park Archives, through their purchase of materials from the Johnny Bill Ramey collect
