Family needs answers, Estes Park loses interest

Image
Painfully thin, potentially Girl Interrupted more than Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, easily overpowered, easily discarded It has now been ten days and Estes Park residents have moved on to the Jazz Festival and fights over how many women should have statues built in their honor in Bond Park.  Meanwhile, a formerly living, breathing young woman recovered by competing interests from the Big Thompson is the topic of maybe one saltatory thread on Facebook, her car still missing, her family still baffled by why she came to Estes Park, and how a missing vehicle is not considered foul play, or at least worthy of the attention span of four of the eight Scripps spelling bee champions.  On Maui, they continued searching for answers when no good news was thought possible for 17 straight days.  In Estes Park, we stopped questioning the crap sandwich we were being fed after the first bite.

And for our next act - A dog's bum

If you can make out a male anatomical feature in these contrails, god bless you, but otherwise, I have to think somebody in Phoenix with a camera and a backyard has way too much time on his hands.  I would never hire these Air Force pilots to make balloon animals at my kid's birthday party, in other words. But again, if our men in uniform are that adept at flying fighter jets at twice the speed of sound AND leaving behind graffiti more fit for a bathroom stall in their wake, we should all admit we have some of the best damn pilots in the world.

Whoa What?

The family wasn't immediately informed by police what had happened to their daughter?  The family is out knocking on doors in Estes Park days later asking for information?  The family was told (or learned through the newspaper) "no foul play" without being interviewed, and without a car located, and, if the stories are true, without whatever clothing or cell phone or identification Ms. Fowler shed before being found in the river, being returned to them? Who first found this individual in the river?  Fishing guides, or a gentleman returning home from work?  How hard is this to clarify, and why should the family be the one forced to clarify it?  Why is the "fog of war" approach considered appropriate in this case to clouding the circumstances surrounding a young girl's death?

F.O. Stanley's middle name was "Good"

Only one serious health violation this time around for the Stanley Hotel.  Good thing Flora had declining eyesight, because she wouldn't have seen the rot on her head lettuce.  Good on ya, Flora.  100 years of voting and all that. Oh well, we can always console ourselves by saying, "At least the Stanley isn't Panhandlers Pizza".

The car was not with the individual

And is presently either sitting somewhere unnoticed and unattended, or someone knows something about the vehicle, like where it is parked, and hasn't been forthcoming.  If an individual is found in the Big Thompson River and foul play isn't suspected, what, was she wearing a bathing suit and told friends she was going for a swim but couldn't swim?  She worked at Ziggis coffee, there is a Ziggi's coffee in Estes Park, are we asking those employees for alibis?  Just because concrete blocks aren't part of the outfit doesn't mean foul play shouldn't be suspected, unless the police know a lot more about Ms. Fowler's mental state than they are saying.  Indeed, the fact that they are looking for a vehicle indicates to me foul play is very much suspected. This is an individual who finished near the top of her class at Silver Creek High School in Longmont.  Either her Facebook page and tweets have been scrubbed, or her friends are the only providers of  Fa

And then how does Estes Park spell jewelry?

Image
Everyone, over the next few weeks, look for the sign in the prominent Estes Park business window announcing a "Jewelery [sic] Sale".  It has long been my contention that Estes Park needed a town spell-checker more than a town PIO.  We are on display to the world, we are selling jewelry, for goodness sake, and we don't even know how to spell it. Now for those who contend, "Oh, maybe it is a UK or Canadian or Aussie way of spelling, maybe the store owners are not from the U.S.", here are the responses to that nonsense: Face up to it, Estes Park, collectively we are not a very intelligent place.  And we put that on public display every single day.  Proudly.  Our Secretary of State, an Estes Park High School graduate, mangles the English language.  I don't ask much of my elected officials, but I do think if they were born here, they should recognize that subjects and verbs need to agree. No one in the civilized world spells "Jewelry" like Es

Public Enemy Number #1

How can we effectively outlaw these in Estes Park? The threat of the terror that is the gravity coaster unleashed in Estes Park has caused a massive public outcry.  Art Messal, who skinned his shirtless self as a 4-year-old on a runaway Step2 death trap set up on the gravel drive outside his parents' double-wide, is violently opposed to rekindling any memories of his troubled past.  Trustee Ron Norris, who vowed never to get on one of these monstrosities again after herniating a disk bouncing over a 4% grade in his Soapbox Derby car, has introduced legislation crafted by town administrator Lancaster to shoot any wheeled vehicle caught going downhill on site.  And Charlize Bangs, who has children herself but can't risk any of them becoming stunt drivers like the reckless individual pictured above (headed for trouble not only because her feet are up in the air but also because of who she appears to be associating with) is fervently working behind the scenes to make daycare af

And then really help me understand this

The following 9 individuals gave money to the GoFundMe site to file lawsuits against the proposed mountain coaster (because it is a commercial enterprise in a residentially-zoned neighborhood), and also added their names to a list of 500+ Historic Stanley Home Foundation (a commercial enterprise in a residentially-zoned neighborhood) supporters, likely knowing they would be asked to contribute funds towards this cause as well.  So not only are they seemingly at cross purposes, they are providing money to at least one of the two efforts that are at cross purposes.  They are essentially funding both sides of the same fight.  Now that is the true definition of democracy, or bad betting, or something. Lynn Bopp, Mary Bopp = $250, $250, $250 = $750 Jean McLaren = $300, $300 = $600 Jack Boatman, Jan Boatman = $100 Alan Groesbeck, Kathy Groesbeck = $100 Keith Stephenson = $50 Jane Truesdale = $50

The 65 specials

Help me understand how the following 63 folks (plus Graham Russell and Nancy Hills, who presumably live out of town but assisted in the recall effort or GoFundMe drive to raise money for the coaster lawsuits) can sign up as supporters of the Historic Stanley Home Foundation (a commercial enterprise in a residentially-zoned neighborhood) and also sign a petition recalling town trustee Cody Rex Walker (for proposing a commercial enterprise in a residentially-zoned neighborhood)?  Are they just joiners, willing to add their names to whatever comes along to be welcomed into whatever group shows them some affection?  Are they hypocrites?  There may be more than 63 people who signed both documents (some first names are not exact on both documents, so I erred on the side of caution) or there may be more than the X family units represented among these 63 people who split their support between causes (for example, a husband may have signed one document and a wife another) to spread their reach,
