Welcome to Whiteville

The problems Estes Park is currently having vis a vis Visit Estes Park and the Senior Center/EVICS battle are white people's problems, specifically rich white people's problems.  Cue up the StoryCorps entry for Lan Cao if you think otherwise, or read the transcript here:

Both sides in the Senior Center/EVICS debate are falling all over themselves to "prove" who is more important in town, and more deserving of a silly building.

It's a shame this is going on amidst the backdrop of significant problems in Larimer County, problems with addiction and tolerance and domestic violence and ignorance and a rising homeless population.

If you don't think there are people around here who are overtly racist, or impassioned for all the wrong reasons, this picture from the online edition of USA Today, taken last night outside the Lory Student Center at CSU, should make you sit up and take notice.
The man on the left is protesting free speech, specifically, he wants to quash it.  The man on the right is a thug.  How 'bout we give them both a one-way trip to a country where they can spend most of their time worrying about how to get water when they can't just turn on the tap or buy some from the local convenience store, or how many parasites are an acceptable number in their lunch, or whether the market or the bus they take to market might be subject to a suicide bombing.

Serious, Senior Center/EVICS, whoever "wins" this battle is the true loser.  Spend some time over the weekend thinking about what you have and what you actually lack, rather than how many cheese trays you are going to need for your Super Bowl parties.
