Percent, that is.  We are now one-third of the way through the 1966 Estes Park telephone book as far as number of total entries, and all earlier observations continue to hold.  In fact, I'm so confident none of the individuals included in the 1966 phone book are still around Estes Park (they may be living elsewhere, although I'm skeptical of more than three or four living anywhere in a corporeal sense), I'll give free coffee and donuts to any individuals listed thus far who can walk in and introduce themselves.  Children, fine, grandchildren, probably a few more, but every name I recognize, it's in the past tense.

I apologize, because reading this is pretty much like reading a telephone book.  Once you get past the discovery (which was discovered a long time ago, sorry to disappoint) that all numbers assigned to Estes Park homeowners in the 1960s were either 586-3XXX or 586-4XXX, with businesses starting to have the option of a 586-9XXX number - thus allowing people who have one of these number currently to find their "historic phone buddy" - there's not much else to excite.  But this list really isn't for you, because Estes Park (and especially every early census) if of the world.  The great thing about using Google as your host is, material is made digitally available essentially instantaneously (if you don't believe me, type in "Norrisville" and "Estes Park" and see what gets pulled up), so this list is for those rare individuals in Pretoria or Pasadena who are searching for any information on one of their ancestors, perhaps included among these 2100 names, and have up to this point not been having much luck.

This list is sobering, because it is becoming increasingly more apparent that Estes Park's population turns over like so much compost every 50 years.  Newcomers exploit this to take over whatever board or cause they wish to exploit, because there are so few people around to gently let them know "that's not the way things work here".  Whether this embedded stratification is fair or not, it is the fabric of most other surrounding towns and cities, likely the towns and cities newcomers have fled to become citizens of Estes Park.  Rather than Estes Park being difficult to change, maybe people stick around because they quickly learn how easy it is to implement their will, provided they yell loud enough.  Where I grew up, there were individuals you just didn't question, their word and their opinions were just taken as gospel.  Who in Estes Park commands that same gravitas?  It's almost as if you are penalized if you are stupid enough to have grown up here, or to spend more than a few weeks here each winter.
