Know your candidates

Michelle Ann "Mooshie" Hiland, 30 (Battle Mountain High School 2006, B.B.A. and B.S. University of Colorado Boulder 2011), is one of four female candidates running for Estes Park town trustee.
Parents:  Michael Jon "Mike" Hiland, formerly Hiland Development, Inc., Deborah M. "Debbie" Hiland Irwin, Vail realtor
Siblings:  Brianna, 31
Employer:  Mtn. Dog Media (Boulder website development and marketing) and/or TrainingPeaks (endurance training software)
Address:  1767 Wildfire Road
Registered:  Unaffiliated
Registration date:  20 May 2016
Full-time Estes Park resident since:  2012
Major Connections:  Distance running, downhill and back-country skiing, self-professed interest in economic development
Positives:  Loves the outdoors, great to see young people running, bird-dogged the libertine Fogarty VEP reign, on record as against the aborted recall, participated in Pink Vail (skiing to support Shaw Regional Cancer Center) last year
Concerns:  Will split votes with the other young female running in the "young, female" voting bloc, recently interviewed for VEP board and was not selected (for obvious reasons), although will have a hard time convincing the uninformed voters this wasn't a failure, given the qualifications of who was selected (including one guy who moved away before even being seated, and another guy whose coffee/bicycle business seems to be in limbo).
Albatross:   Sorry to say this, but life partner, who is also running, not necessarily because of his more polarizing stances on particular issues, but because no "husband/wife team" (or relationship equivalents) have even been elected simultaneously to the same board, and with the broad candidate field, setting such a precedent this time around is unlikely.
Likelihood of winning:  At least one female candidate will be elected this cycle.  Some candidates run not necessarily thinking they will win, but to get a message out.  Yes, we all know young people have a difficult time making it in Estes Park, but I'm afraid, given the prevailing demographic, that has as much chance of resonating with the average Estes Park voter as Artie Lange telling Park Avenue residents how jealous he is of their status and wealth.

I'm always fascinated by the question of why Marie Cenac entered local politics

Okay so I'll say it
