This actually isn't a terrible idea.

Pitkin County is obviously lying, they have more than enough funds to test (at the point Aspen runs out of money, we should just put a big "For Sale" sign on the entire state), but my guess is, they are getting overwhelmed by the worried well, and they recognize that, if 70% of the population is going to get infected anyway, and the test is not a treatment (because quarantine when 70% of the population is already infected isn't much help), why not throw up your hands, circa 1918 when there wasn't a test either, and hunker down for the long haul.

Great. Too Late.

Hey Hey Hey We Are Proud of You Sayin We Are Proud Of You [repeat ad nauseam] So the big boys in Fort Collins finally dug up a pair and did what needed to be done four days ago.  When the first case was reported in Larimer County, guys, did you really think that was the only case?  Ever?  And ever?  Amen? Singing [Andrew Gold-like]: How could her parents have lied? When they said she was their only case It turned out they were way off base Oh, Oh, Oh - Oh what a lonely case.  Oh what a lonely case.  Oh what a LoNeLY CASe [buh-buhm-buhmbu, buh-bumbuh-bmmm]

During this time of heightened awareness over proper hygiene

It's nice to know our local restaurants, as per usual, can't pass a simple health inspection.  Oh, lawdy, such a comfort that nothing ever changes in the Estes of Park.  For the past few weeks, there haven't been any Estes Park restaurants on the list, because there haven't been any restaurants in Estes Park undergo inspection.  What would you like with your hotcakes - Butter?  Syrup?  Extra E. coli ?

Anybody got an extra $5K?

I need to sell a couple hundred more boondoggle keychains.  This is just to make you jealous.  While you are clawing for life, gulping for air and waiting for someone to keel over so you can get intubated with their non-sterilized ventilator, the elites will be spritzing some Touchland on their wrists and air-kissing their Swedish Vallhund.  Remember, you could have voted for Bernie.  Now you'll just be feeling the burn at your temples, as you collapse with goo-filled lungs.

It's not like Italy was distracting us on purpose

Image
There were, and still are, legitimate concerns about Italy toppling over into random mass casualties.  But we should have kept one eye on Spain.  Interesting aside:  Spain referred to the 1918 outbreak as the "French Flu".  Italy and Spain have similar health care systems, similar distrust of government dictates.  And now the death toll in Madrid is rising, ominously.  Of course, in a few days, none of this will matter, we will be focused entirely on the U.S., but it just shows that you can't even learn from your neighbors, because of language and cultural barriers.  Thank God we get along so well with Mexico.

Our own private Idaho

Idaho falls.  Down goes Idaho.  All hope is now centered on West Virginia.  The Greenbrier is the federal government's secret bunker.  It may now become the exclusive hangout of the rich and famous.  The state marketing department in Charleston has some mock-ups for the campaign "Come to West Virginia.  We're coronavirus-free, and it's not because we don't know how to test for it." Remember when I cautioned last week that the map at that time was going to look like a face full of measles in a few days?  We no longer need to worry about travel history.  Just traveling to your local convenience store is all that is necessary to pick up an unintended viral load.  Stay well.  The food products that aren't cleared off the shelves over the coming weeks in the pandemonium should probably stop being made.  If you won't eat something in a quarantine, you sure as hell aren't going to eat it when the going is good.

One week ago, Colorado had its first case

Now, it has its first death.  A woman in El Paso County with underlying co-morbidity.  Just because you know its coming doesn't make the shock less severe.  We are now contributing to the toll.  It is our responsibility to do all we can to stop contributing to the toll.
