Town in favor of adults having sex with underage children

Background:  One of the "Pikas in the Park" honors W.T. Parke (not W.T. Park, but we can't all be historians here), a local photographer and closet pervert who was accused and convicted 100 years back of having improper sexual relations with an underage girl.

A request has been made to honor someone, anyone in Estes Park's history other than a known pedophile, especially given that one of the clues to finding a different pika is along the lines of "I love watching the children play as I sit on my perch."

But the town will have none of it.  W.T. Parke (not W.T. Park, but we can't all be historians here) stays, because the donor asked for it.  Money talks, and pedophiles therefore walk.

Welcome to Estes Park.  In the immortal words of Antoine Dobson, "Hide your kids, hide your wife, hide your husband, cause they're child rapin' everybody out here."

Response to request follows:

The clue referring to watching kids play is for Joel Estes, not WT Park, and it is integral to the clue, since the pika is located at Children's park.

I'm sure with enough digging, there are skeletons in every historical figure's past that aren't exeplary examples of humanity.  Certainly there are those who feel Lord Dunraven was a crook as well.  The name WT Park was requested by the Donor and specifically chosen for that location.  We have an agreement with the donor for the name WT Park and for the location.

The Pika's in the Park program was designed as a fun activity for families and to get people exploring downtown.  It has been extremely successful with that objective.  The names were just a fun way to identify the pikas.  The brochure was never intended to be a scholarly analysis of the past prominent citizens of Estes Park or a social commentary on their actions.  We're happy if it raises some interest in Estes Park history, or in the biology of the pika species, and may encourage some to delve deeper into these subjects.

At this point, I believe the information in the brochure is correct and we won't be making any more changes, unless there is a factual error.

Update with response from donor:  When the donor was approached and told that the pika he purchased was honoring a pedophile, his response was "Thanks for stopping in."  Not "Thank you for pointing this out, I abhor pedophilia and will take the appropriate steps to make sure my store does not in any way appear to condone such behavior," but simply "thanks for stopping in".

In a situation like that, one don't even have to bother asking for the donor's personal beliefs on the issues of pedophilia or child pornography.  They are readily apparent in his non-response.

My take:  I love when the town digs in so far on an issue they can't even see the light of reason from how far down in the bunkers they are.  I await replies from the pamphlet authors as far as their views on adults engaging in sexual activity with youngsters.
