New York New York it's a half a million miles away from Estes Park |
Imagine if you went to McDonald's, ordered one hamburger, and were charged for two. Imagine if you only used an average of 20 gallons of gas a month to get around town, but were told at the gas station the minimum they could sell you was 30 gallons. You don't have to imagine any longer - That is the new Estes Park water rate plan. If you don't use a lot of water, you are going to be charged each month not for what you use, but for 3 to 4 times what you normally use. Be good stewards, Estes Park. Don't waste water, don't waste electricity, don't idle your car for longer than 3 minutes in the winter. Oh wait, do waste water, do waste electricity, do go to the emergency room when you need a bandaid, do call 911 and ask how long before Jimmy John's opens. Why not? Why should you save precious resources when you are being charged NOT to save precious resources. This is definitely one the millennials can get behind: The old motto was "Waste not, want not", but the new motto is "Waste, and say goodbye to the earth by 2050". Yeah. Singing: Hey hey we're the monkeys/and people say we're smarter than that/but we're not actually smarter than monkeys/at least not our town utilities department.
We need $35 million to pay for a water treatment plant upgrade (supposedly). Why not sell some of our extra water?
