One of the last images the YouTube shooter released to the world prior to filing a direct complaint with her handgun is so sad, it makes what she did almost pardonable. If only one person from her adopted country would have reached out and said a kind word to her prior to yesterday, instead of leaving charry dismissals in her comments section, none of this might have happened. A child, ex tempore, in a backyard garden, free from sin (is it me, or the age we live in, where everything, even the soccer ball, seems slightly Photoshopped?) is not a manifesto from a killer, it's a cry for help.
Please, YouTube, instead of drowning us in videos, how about encouraging folks to drop the cell phones and greet a neighbor every once in awhile, perhaps complement a complete stranger. We humans developed a language bursting with compassion and understanding for a reason. When patients sit in the waiting room, the nurse calling them back absentmindedly or rotely asks them "How are you doing?" How do you think they are doing? Why not try this: "You look good today/great today - Are you feeling the same?" They are putting themselves in your hands. Exercise, practice, read up, chide yourself often, whatever it takes, but make it so that your hands are worthy to receive them.
