For all those who hate me

Image
in Estes Park, who will never, ever vote for me, even if I am the only candidate on the ballot, why don't you hate me enough to volunteer to come out and pick up trash on the one day in your hectic, frantic, purpose-filled lives designated for anyone and everyone to pick up trash in town without getting their picture in the paper or their name on a plaque? Are you lazy? The orange bag above was filled from a few Estes Park businesses too lazy to pick up the junk littering their parking lots and peripheries. It took all of 30 mintues to fill up a giant orange bag with bottles and cans and cups and junk mail. It wasn't hard to find, and it wasn't difficult to extract. You don't have 30 minutes to pick up your mess, yet you expect me to spend my entire life unwaveringly supporting gaudy business plans and workforce housing plans and hang on the rotating, short-lived Chamber CEO's every word (except when she has COVID, or is hosting COVID forums she has no busi...

Are you ready to rev up?

Image
Hi Estes Park - I'm here to rev you up by filling you in on my busy schedule. If you could just model your life after mine, you would be much happier and less self-aware, I'm betting. On Tuesday, I took a poop and it was a good one. Much better than the day before. It probably set a record, but I would just scare the current record holder if I tried to confirm this. On Wednesday, I rushed from a public meeting with the county commissioner where six people were in attendance (note how important it was for me to count how many people were in attendance, and more importantly, to report how many people were in attendance - Actually, five people were in attendance, and one of those people came in late, but I was too revved up to count correctly, and had to leave early because I'm an important person, at which point the county commissioner corrected all the misinformation I had provided before my departure, but we are revved up friends so I don't care and I'm sure she...

Thanks Larimer County

Image
Obviously, you didn't listen to me, when I posted last week asking you to stop playing games. It is simply that your calculator forced you to round up to 25 rather than down to 20. So we are indeed now where we were last week (indeed, where we were last year, if you take into account how many folks with COVID never bothered getting tested) with 1 out of 4 Larimer County residents having tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 since March 2020. Oh, the stories we will tell our grandchildren (those of us left alive) in 2050, about the Larimer County sheriff at the time being such an idiot he wanted folks to get infected, kind of like that short story "The Lottery" where they stoned people simply because their number had been drawn. Talk about your predestination. I hope our Sheriff Numbskull is predestined to shortly encounter a fire ant hill after an unfortunate honey spill down the front of his crotchless underwear (one of those crazy sex games the various area county deputi...

Seems like a decent guy

Image
And after all, these are just charges. If he has an impressive resume, why should we keep him off the local hospital board?

Well, VEP needs to reintroduce its own tourist guidebook

Image
And this guy is obviously a good printer. Once he gets out of prison, he's got an impressive resume, and I'm sure he could garner enough endorsements to run for hospital board.

Gosh. Hmmm. I thought COVID-19 was over.

Image
Sadly, the family of a 64-year-old male in Glen Haven found out this wasn't the case.

Another Florida Promoter

Image
Do we just want to open an unemployment office branch in Tampa? CofC, VEP, all these folks who are glad to return to the mountains - Why did they leave in the first place if it was so wonderful? Oh well, at least they will quickly recognize why the smart money heads south for the winter. And permanently when they realize Estes has no beach culture and no good bluefin.

If I responded to norovirus

Image
the way all the deniers in town responded to Covid... "Does it kill the kids? Then why dismiss school? What data do you have that the diarrhea is transmitted from licking your fingers after taking a dump? Can you mandate me not licking my fingers after taking a dump? Two days without school will likely cause an increase in suicidal ideation of 250%, and I am pretty sure all the teachers have natural immunity. So what if we lose a few? Is it worth me having to take six hours off of work at the critically imperative T-shirt shop for two solid days to actually have to interact with my kids? Is there a vaccine? Will it completely prevent disease while being totally harmless? How much do I have to fight to make sure my kids aren't required to get it?"

We aren’t all six years old

Image
At what point will our community grow out of its perpetual infantile paralysis and start referring to diseases by their proper designations? The only thing more childish than calling a virus a "bug", which dates you to the time of Pasteur and no phones or electricity, would be to attribute this two-day deep clean to an "upset tummy". Do we have any qualified medical professionals within a 50-mile radius of the school? Do we seriously want the world to think we have no ability in Estes Park to overcome our health illiteracy, and still use outdated terms like quinsy or lockjaw?

Count the masks

Image
I see three. So maybe three people in Miami will survive the next Sars-CoV-2 variant. Mark Sumner's latest is insightful, dispiriting and sadly perspicacious: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2022/4/22/2093378/-Human-beings-are-in-an-evolutionary-race-with-SARS-CoV-2-and-we-need-all-the-help-we-can-get

And thus it shall be

The Trail-Gazette editorial board has spoken, and has decided it is imperative to vote for Estes Park Trail-Gazette editorial board member David Batey (the F.O. Stanley apologist) and Drew Webb (his California stoner buddy). Now get out there and make it happen. Because the Trail-Gazette is hanging on by the tips of their fingernails, and has to get one thing right this election cycle.

Stop playing games, Estes Park

Image
Let's see, what has a chance of decreasing the risk of spreading COVID and decreasing the risk of catching COVID? Is the answer: (A) Masks or (B) No Masks You bottom dwellers out there who just watched COVID cases in Estes Park skyrocket by 100 in two weeks (when no one is even bothering to offer testing, or get tested) and read the report (or skimmed the report, or saw the headline, or didn't pay any attention) that 30% of people who contract SARS-CoV-2 in the United States suffer from Long Covid symptoms, how bout if you stay the f*** away from me with your COVID breath? I won't die if I catch COVID, you obviously don't think you will ever die, but statistics prove me right and you wrong. I'm trying to save you from yourselves, you backwater dumfug cretin "I slept through science class" morons and idjits. Why do you somehow think you have the moral or intellectual high ground, when you are still unable to distinguish between a virus and that nasty...

Stop playing games, Larimer County

Image
80,000 cases / 357,000 residents equals 1 in 4 residents. Stop rounding down. You can't have 1/2 a resident.

So goodbye my Shella brick 'Krance

Image
Avast - We hardly knew yee Update: Interestingly, Belle Morris and Shannon Faith, the two resident town twits, are calling for a recall of the newly-elected board members. Why even hold elections any more? They just are going to be reversed by the folks who lost. LOST. Do you understand? There was a democratic, free and fair election back in November, one of the largest mail-ballot election turnouts in the history of Estes Park, and your side LOST. There are consequences to every election. And the consequence in the most recent school board election is, YOUR SIDE LOST. So you don't get to make important decisions, or complain when important decisions are made. If you want to run everything, why don't you try running for office yourselves, or find candidates who aren't stupid enough to run as a "team". This is the real world, not Barbie's Dream House, where you get to run the world with your best friends. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...

Safeway finally Jean Valjeaned me

Image
I received an electronic gift card for Safeway this last holiday season. Because it was not a plastic card, but rather an email providing a link to something you printed out on a piece of paper, our local Safeway cannot handle it, doesn't know what to do with it. Probably those employees who can read the two lines of instructions on how to redeem it might be able to do it, those who have been walked through the process multiple times might be able to do it - it is a three step process, I have it memorized, but unless I can walk around to the cash register and just do it myself, it is impossible to talk whatever new hire is manning aisle 5 through it, especially if customers are lined up behind waiting, and so I end up getting whatever I'm trying to buy completely free. That has happened twice in the past two months, and each time I diligently go and wait at a customer service counter that is rarely open and say, ten minutes later, "I think I just got free groceries...

Dear Mrs. Dunbar

Image
Understood. What I am hoping for is to find someone outside of Colorado willing to write a short letter to the editor of the Estes Park Trail-Gazette prior to the May 3 hospital board election saying absolutely nothing controversial except along the lines of "Drew Webb is an investor in SFS Farms, which will likely be one of the largest marijuana grow operations alongside what has historically been wine country in Santa Barbara County, potentially threatening our livelihoods." I'm not trying to put words in anyone's mouth. And it could be absolutely anyone's mouth. A person who runs the gift shop at one of the wineries twice a week. Or your dance studio or any neighboring business. It just has to be a real person. Someone who can point out his past history or ongoing history outside of Colorado isn't lily white. Already as a member of the Hospital Foundation Board (which isn't an elected position, but an appointed one) he went on record last year ...

Will all those Santa Barbara vineyard owners endorsing Drew H. Webb please stand?

Image
Here is the latest from Chad Melville: Yes it was approved but has not been planted yet, and not sure when they have plans to, but can be planted any day now. Note how this 2007 Pinot Noir has that pungent terpene odor which comes from the world's largest marijuana grow somehow deciding to locate right next to you in wine country... Which group of folks would you trust more to actually care about your parents - Stoner Drew and his Estes Park hospital district "team", or the Melville Winery team?

Where were you in 2013?

Image
As the number of cases in Estes Park creeps up on the year of our Lord 2022, let's be positive about all of this. Only 1% of our infected populace died, the Chamber of Commerce will soon have a COVID-free leader, and your sense of smell, you 2000+ folks with an 80517 Zip Code, may one day return. Plus your (you are) guaranteed not be the dumbest person in the room anymore.

If you want to be a stoner, you're going to have to break a few bottles

Image
Drew Webb's SFS farms, the largest marijuana grow operation in California, and potentially in the world, is going to funnel the skunk smell of high grade indica onto the grapes and palates of established vintners and their visiting guests.  Who cares?  You've got to break a few bottles to get ahead in this world. To be successful, you have to be ruthless.  Like driving the old fogeys out of the only skilled nursing facility in Estes Park in order to install more grow lights.  But let's all be CALM about this.  Change is necessary, and beatings will continue until morale improves.

Load up. Light up. Get CALM.

Image
Now I know why the Hospital Board is touting Drew Webb as a "calm presence".   The guy is stoned out of his gourd.

It could have been worse

Image
Allegedly, Dave Batey's first choice to replace Sandy Begley on the hospital board "team" was Pablo Escobar, until one of the "calmer" members of his current "team" convinced him Pablo was indeed still dead. Any resemblance to Drew H. Webb of SFS Farms (Stoner Fatty Stinkweed) is purely coincidental. Does the "team" even bother vetting anyone anymore?

We need two dubs of Alaskan Thunderf*** - STAT

Image
Once Drew Webb climbs on board, hospital staff may need to update their name tags, utilizing this handy guide:

Well, the hospital will never run out of lettuce

Image
  You Grow Drew Webb

Um, yeah, there is a big fire burning north of Lyons near county road 37E and Blue Mountain

Image
causing evacuations in both Boulder County and Larimer County.  If you drew a line from Apple Valley to Pinewood Reservoir (not Pinewood Springs, think Rattlesnake Park on the old road between Loveland and Estes Park - the Bald Mountain to Pole Hill road), the fire is halfway between there.  So far, no Estes Park news source has bothered reporting this.

We were soldiers once...and young

"Criticism comes from a position of truthfulness and authority"  - Hegesias of Cyrene The third century (BC) Greek philosopher Hegesias of Cyrene recognized people who complained for complaining's sake didn't always get what they wanted or thought they deserved. So for the Trail-Gazette publisher to suddenly get religion with regards to buildings being accessible is a bit like the pot calling the kettle a pot.  The Trail-Gazette building used to be a hub of casual drop-ins and vibrant discussion.  Now you can't get inside, unless you are part of the select editorial board "team" endorsing other actions and desires of the editorial board "team".  A selfish, celebratory road-trip column while gas prices simmer and the environment teeters on the brink of collapse?  Really?   If the Trail-Gazette actually wanted the mayor to re-implement Mayor's Chats, they would banish the current poor man's substitute, the mayor's weekly column of pro...

What I think I know

Image
Cases in Larimer County are up.  Wastewater monitoring shows an increase in positive samples, or if you don't attach much significance to the actual raw numbers, a lack of a decrease.  Hospitalizations are way, way down.  So either this latest variant is puny and weak, or we have yet to see it reach hospitalization levels.  Or more people are getting vaccinated, and those increases in vaccination indicate newly converted believers, rather than scared people going back for a fourth jab (seems unlikely, but let's be generous about the human race and how they react to overwhelming evidence). If you want to believe we are under one million deaths, you can run to the Johns Hopkins map If you believe all numbers are too low and we are underreporting as a nation (since some states stopped testing, and some states weren't as rigorous about determining or reporting cause of death), you should keep relying on the Worldometers chart. But ultimately, know that nothing is going t...
